“Mirror, mirror on the wall…”

What do you see when you look in the mirror?  Okay, beyond the obvious.  What do you see when you really look, deep into yourself?  A good person?  Someone you’re proud of?  Someone you like, or even better, love?

For all of my life (no, really, no exaggeration here), I’ve absolutely and utterly hated who and what I see when I look into the mirror.  So much so that I frequently made it a point to not look into the mirror, and most especially never look myself in the eyes—the pain was just too great.  I’ve never seen myself as attractive, or worthy, or someone to be proud of, or really anything remotely positive.  Part of this is due to Keep reading

Weekend recap and conversation with Mom

Before I get started, I want to say a HUGE “thank you” to all of you out there who I’ve recently come out to about this and who have been incredibly supportive–hopefully you all know who you are.  I’ve spoken to many of you these past few days, some in person, some via text, and some via Skype, and it means more than I can type that I know I have your support through this journey.  The more I read and hear about other people’s transitions, the more stories I come across where people were ostracized or even insulted by their friends and family, and I was terrified that would be my story as well.  However, thanks to you all, it’s not.  So again, thank you all for your support and I hope you will keep reading throughout the upcoming months!

9 weeks

What will I be doing in the next 9 weeks (until August 31st, to be exact)?  I’ll be going to work 45 times, sleeping past 8:00 am on 18 days, taking over 1 million breaths, and showering over 60 times.  I’ll also probably watch enough TV to last three whole days, spend close to 400 hours online for work and for fun, and read several books.  I’ll celebrate my 25th birthday, spend time with family and friends, and get tan (and sweaty) in the Arizona heat.  But I’ll also wake up over 60 times, look in the mirror, and hate what I see.  Over 60 times, Keep reading
